Russia and Iraq opened the way to future business partnerships on Wednesday, initialing an agreement as a first step towards cooperation.

A formal agreement will be signed soon

The Interfax news agency reported that a formal cooperation agreement will be signed in the future, after Iraq's interim government is fully formed.

"When, on the basis of the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce, a permanent Iraqi chamber of commerce is formed, which will most likely be headed by Mohammad al-Kazzaz, the agreement itself will be signed," said Viktor Labusov, a member of the Russian-Arab Business Council and the president of the Infaikom financial investment group.

Labusov said that Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds had all participated in the discussions.
