Iraq team invites Chinese investment (10/04/05)


An Iraqi delegation of senior government officials from Kurdistan which visited the Chinamex Mart in Dubai yesterday has invited further Chinese investment in the reconstruction of Iraq. The delegation included undersecretaries, deputy ministers and senior civil servants from ministeries of finance, tourism industry, trade, public works and agriculture from Kurdistan and representatives of various chambers of commerce from Arbil, Sulaimanieh and Kirkook, Dehouk.
 
Kurdistan has enormous growth potential
 
Inviting the Chinese investors to Kurdistan, Abdullah A. Raheem, undersecretary for the Ministry of Finance and Commerce, said that the Kurdistan area in the north of Iraq is now the safest region in the country and has substantial growth potential.

The region has two international airports and soon there will be direct flights connecting Dubai with Arbil and Sulaimanieh airports. Kurdistan, which has international borders with Iran, Turkey and Syria, will have a major role in Iraq's international and regional trade and commerce.

"We are keen to encourage our businessmen, authorities and institutions to start business with Chinese manufacturers, investors, manufacturers and traders in different sectors to coordinate their capabilities in the reconstruction of Iraq," said Hoshiar Sioli, undersecretary for the Ministry of Tourism.
