Turkish firm signs contract to export electricity to Iraq (17/03/05)

According to the Al-Fourat newspaper, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has signed an agreement with Turkey's privately-owned Black Sea Wholesale Electricity Trade (KARTET) Company to expand its electrical power export to Iraq from a current 200 megawatts to 1,000 megawatts within six months.

Turkey has begun selling electricity to Iraq

KARTET has already started investing in the necessary infrastructure to execute this contract. Turkey has begun selling electricity to Iraq to help relieve severe post-war power shortages there and also plans to begin supplying kerosene and water, the Turkish Energy Ministry said recently.

The fact that new electrical equipment and devices have recently entered the Iraqi market has greatly increased the demand for electricity in the country.
