Turkey-Iraq business volume to be increased (05/11/05)


Turkish State Minister for Trade Kursad Tuzmen has announced that the business volume between Turkey and Iraq has reached $5.5 billion for 2005.

Turkish contractors in Iraq made business contracts worth $1.2 billion since the beginning of the year the Minister said, and the modernisation works of Habur border gate has also been initiated.

Due to the Iraq war, Turkey had lost the export trade it had conducted with this country; however, Turkish businessmen are trying to close the gap and as of October 15, exports to Iraq have been recorded at $2.1 billion Tuzmen said, expecting that the figure might reach as high as $2.7 billion by the end of 2005.
