The Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) subsidiary’s aviation division in Bahrain was contacted by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) to provide support in delivering relief supplies to affected areas in Iraq.

Taking up to the challenge, DHL officials immediately organised two aircraft - an IL-76 and a DC-8 to uplift the supplies and deliver them at cost to Baghdad.

The relief supplies comprised 200 tents, 2,000 food parcels, generators, medical supplies, disposable surgical aid and water. Commenting on the recent project, Phil Couchman, regional director, DHL Middle East, said: “As a socially responsible company, it is part of our corporate values to support humanitarian causes.

“We are proud to utilise our logistical expertise to assist with humanitarian aid distribution.”

The DPWN arm’s Airport Emergency Team (AET) also recently played a key role in offering disaster relief to Katrina-hit victims in New Orleans by coordinating relief supplies in Arkansas.
