The first private Iraqi Bank was inaugurated on Monday in the free-zone of the Syrian capital Damascus with a capital of $10 million.

The new Damascus branch will boost economic cooperation

Basra Bank branch Manager Qays Al-Badri told reporters that the economic and financial reforms in Syria encouraged the bank management to open a branch in Damascus' free-zone.

The Damascus branch, he said, aimed to accelerate trade and boost economic cooperation between Syria and Iraq.

Syrian Free-Zone Director Adnan Sulaiman said that number of authorized banks in the free-zone has reached seven, stressing that Syrian economy has been developing despite regional developments.

Last week, government-owned Syrian Airlines started operating three flights a week from Damascus to Baghdad to accelerate bilateral transportations and trade.
