World Bank grants $18.7mm for rehab clinics in Iraq (15/09/05)


A delegation representing the Iraqi government has reached an agreement with the World Bank regarding a grant to build rehabilitation facilities in Iraq.

The Iraqi delegation included five representatives, was led by Deputy Minister of Health Ammar al-Saffar, and included an official from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

This delegation met with World Bank officials in Amman, Jordan, to discuss their original proposal requesting a $37 million grant to build 18 rehabilitation clinics, one in each province, for disabled persons, and 10 artificial limb clinics. The World Bank initially agreed to a $17.2 million grant, and increased this amount to $18.7 million after further negotiations.

The current grant will be used to build 18 rehabilitation clinics and 5 artificial limb clinics.
