Business executives from over 40 countries from across the globe headed for Amman in June 2005 for the latest Iraq Development Program summit. The program is organised with the full support of Iraq’s various government ministries and seeks to aid the development of Iraq through the facilitation of trade, improved business relations and increased investment into the country.

The summit, the third to be held in Amman and fourth since the program’s inception in 2003, was held at the Grand Hyatt & Zara Expo, providing opportunities for senior business figures to meet with the leading figures involved in the development effort in Iraq, including ministers, Iraqi businesses, prime contractors and organisations such as the Project & Contracting Office (PCO), British Army Corps of Engineers and the World Bank.
An opening ceremony took place on Day One, which featured addresses from the Iraqi Ministers present, along with a speech on behalf of the Jordanian Ministry of Industry & Trade and a welcoming speech on behalf of the IDP.

The summit provided an invaluable forum for discussion on the reconstruction effort in Iraq, with meetings conducted over the course of the three days between the companies present – both Iraqi and international – and the government delegation. A number of expert seminars were also held during the summit, covering issues such as facilitating business, generating increased investment into Iraq and opportunities for contracting and sub-contracting.
A special seminar was also held exclusively for Iraqi businesses on Monday 27 June, presented by the Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA), which provided the Iraqi businesses present with key advice on how to gain the maximum possible benefit from the summit.
