In partnership with the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) we are proud to announce the first official Iraq Development Summit to take place in Erbil.

Following the success of the last fours years of high level business summits, IDP is now bringing its unique event format back to Iraq, enabling senior decision makers from the Government of Iraq and KRG to meet with international operators across the country’s key sectors, including construction and engineering, electricity, water and utilities, health and pharmaceuticals, information and communication technology, petrochemicals, security, transport and trade.

The summit will take place in Erbil, within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on 8-9 October 2008. Based on a format that has proved hugely successful in facilitating business interaction between officials and senior corporate executives, the summit will focus on the building of close relations through private face-to-face meetings.

The success of this meetings-based structure has been based on the establishment of trusted relationships between the private sector and ministries and state-owned enterprises, establishing joint venture agreements, forming partnerships for production output and supplying key goods and services.

Unrivalled Ministerial Representation

The summit will welcome ministers, deputies and director generals from the following Iraqi and KRG Ministries:

  Ministry of Communications
  Ministry of Education
  Ministry of Electricity
  Ministry of Health
  Ministry of Industry
  Ministry of Interior
  Ministry of Science & Technology
  Ministry of Transport
  Ministry of Trade
  Ministry of Water

With so many sectors represented, the summit will be the only event to provide a comprehensive review of the progress made by Iraq’s key industries in the five years since 2003. Key addresses and presentations on these crucial sectors will be made over the two days, as the country looks to continue its economic transformation and realise the potential of its abundant resources.

Unique Format

IDP has now organised many summits with the Government of Iraq. The success of these summits is founded on format whereby half of the time is devoted to keynote addresses and presentations and the other half devoted to one-to-one meetings.

Each Minister will speak during the opening ceremony on 8 October 2008, giving an overview of their strategy and requirements
Deputies and Director Generals will provide specific technical information and contract opportunities
Both afternoons will see private roundtables set up for each Ministry, plus the various officials representing the US Government
Prior to the summit, confirmed sponsors and delegates will be given a choice of preferred pre-scheduled meetings
Sponsorships opportunities and exhibition stands will be available
Private Meetings

More significantly, the various officials present will be available for private discussions with company delegations during the afternoon roundtable sessions, providing the following benefits:

Access to ministers and other high level officials (deputies and director generals)
Reach – the opportunity to meet a number of key decision makers under one roof at one time
Return on Investment – the opportunity to translate your input into business
International Exhibition

With a large number of delegates attending, the summit provides the opportunity for companies to showcase the goods and services that will prove essential in aiding the development of Iraq, to an audience of senior decision makers from both the Government of Iraq and the international business community.

US Government Support

The summit enjoys the full support of the US Government, the primary focus of which is to reinvigorate Iraq’s economy through the development of sectors such as those outlined above. IDP works very closely with US officials to ensure they will have strong representation at the summit and will form part of the private meetings taking place.

Representation will come from the following:

US Task Force for Business & Stability Operations in Iraq
  US Department of Defence
  US Department of Commerce
  US Department of State
Joint Contracting Command – Iraq (JCC-I)
  US Embassy Baghdad
